General Summary:
The Vehicular Crimes paralegal functions as support for the prosecutors assigned to the division. They assist in the acquisition of evidence, discovery compliance, and drafting legal pleadings. They coordinate witnesses for trial and may be asked to sit in during trial to aid the prosecutor in trial. This person should be flexible, organized, and knowledgeable about the internal and external electronic systems at the HCDAO and comfortable navigating the external police agency systems.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Review law enforcement reports for source work investigations
- Trial preparation and help
- Draft subpoenas, grand jury subpoenas and request discovery
- Copy and provide discovery to defense
- Draft legal pleadings, motions, and notices
- Update LEO database
- Witness Coordination
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Legal research and writing skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong time management skills
- Ability to draft legal pleadings and generate subpoenas
- Request discovery and comply with copying and providing to defense counsel
- Knowledgeable about the internal and external electronic systems at the HCDAO
- Working knowledge of Superion and its components (MCT, P&E), Working knowledge of HPD Tiburon, and HELIOS and Polaris
Hours:
- This is a full time, in-person position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours may vary based on the business needs of the department.
Education/Experience:
- Associates of Applied Science or Certificate of Paralegal Studies
- 1 year of paralegal or equivalent experience is preferred.
Salary (Starting):
- $28.28 hourly/ $4,901.87 monthly/ $58,822.40 annually
